Black storch and observing birds

What is special here is that there is a wide variety of birds. I also caught sight of a rare black stork. However, I was too slow with the settings and therefore the picture is slightly blurred.
Ornithologists will certainly get their money's worth here. Birds of prey and the usual suspects such as tits, blackbirds and of course ducks can be found here in abundance.
If there are no birds around at the moment, then you can ideally occupy yourself with reflection photography. The Moosbach is one of the quieter parts of Walchsee, which is why such photos are particularly suitable here.
I think this little diversions is absolutely worth it and it is also an ideal start to the upcoming round. Every now and then a cat sits at the side of the path, just waiting to be pampered and stroked by passers-by. Well...maybe it's also waiting for a pair of birds, but who knows.

A tour to relax

If you need a break from all the mountain tours, then I warmly recommend a walk around Walchsee lake. It is a manageable route, you will find numerous motifs to photograph and this round is very varied.

For parking, I recommend the car park at the church, because on the one hand it's free and on the other hand it's directly on the route. The other option would be at the trampoline park, where a day ticket costs 3 Euros.

The practical thing about the Walchsee lake tour is that you can walk it both in summer and winter. Both seasons have something magical about them and this is reflected in Walchsee.

So...but now to the loop itself. If you walk from the car park along the field path, after a few hundred metres you come to the Moosbach, where you can see many individual polished fields. I recommend walking along these fields.

You can find a map with all the photo spots at the end of this post.

Zahmer Kaiser view

From the view of the lake and the birds, continue to the mountain panorama. The Zahme Kaiser shows its most beautiful side here and is an absolute eye-catcher even in cloudy weather.

You will also find several junctions for either bicycle tours or further hiking trails to higher altitudes. But we stay on the circular route, because we don't want to climb too many metres today.

You pass many a cute farm and again and again you can see livestock such as chickens, cows and also pigs munching away comfortably. Even if this part is not full of motifs, it is a good change as well as an essential part of the trail.
You have now reached the south side of the lake, which is very quiet and has hardly any traffic. From here you can also observe the village of Walchsee and its reflection.

However, the right places to capture this only come a little later. What you can photograph, however, are the tame emperor and the many titmice that chirp happily and fight with the sparrows for the best branch.

One of my favourite trees

After a while you come back down to the lake and can take a break. There are a few benches right by the lake and if you're lucky, an armada of cheeky mallards and coots will come waddling along.
They have probably been fed too often by passers-by and have become so accustomed to people that they even eat out of your hand. The advantage of this, however, is that you can photograph these birds from very close up and they are also very photogenic.
When you leave this gang behind, you come to one of my favourite trees in the region. It stands alone and with all the reeds in the background it is a wonderful subject to photograph. However, depending on the time of year, you have to look at the angle you choose to put the tree in the best light.
What you should look for is to get the top of the tree above the horizon. Then the many branches stand out beautifully and the cloudier the background, the stronger the effect.

Reflection paradise

Then you have a picturesque image with a combination of lake, reeds, trees and mountains. If the lake is relatively calm, you can capture a beautiful reflection from here.

Especially at sunrise and sunset, this place is highly recommended. In autumn you also have the colourfulness of the leaves on your side. As always...be creative and try something new. Who knows what will come out of it.

Insider tip: Quiet water is more likely to be found early in the morning, as there is no wind from the warmth of the sun.

Another nice subject to photograph is the reeds close to you in the foreground and in the lower third of the picture with the opposite side of the lake in the background.

Walchsee from the other side

Walchsee from the other side

Then it's down to the pensioners' beach. A small hut where you can buy snacks in summer. But there is also a toilet here if you are in a hurry.

From here you can take wonderful photos of the village of Walchsee. I would also include the reeds in the picture, as this subdivision simply offers more.

For dog owners, this shore area also offers a dog bathing beach where your four-legged friend can let off steam in a dazzling way. Everywhere you can find small or long benches where you can enjoy your snack.

For ornithologists, there are especially many kites on the move here, scouting their territory and looking for prey. If you have enough patience, you can watch these magnificent gliders in all stages of their flight.

Back along the lake promenade

There are so many places on this page but you can find them all on the map below. The north side with the lake promenade is also worth mentioning. Via a pier about 500 metres long, you can take everything from Instagram photos to panoramic landscapes.

Swans are at their best and offer a good combination of lake, swan, shore and mountain. I would always keep an eye out for a flying swan, because even though they struggle to lift themselves out of the water...it just looks beautiful.

After the pier, you walk next to the main road for a short while before entering the village. My stomach is starting to rumble...are you? My favourite place to go is Andrea's and Moni's Dorf Alm, where my friend Isabelle and I find something to sit down and eat.

From small dishes like soups to delicious dumplings and more, you have all the local cuisine you're craving. Plus, the sun always shines so beautifully, so you get some colour too.

From here, it's not far to the church car park and the tour around Walchsee is complete.

Well? Would that also be something for you?
