The Grießbachklamm

You should park at the Grießbachklamm car park. It is very expensive at 6 euros, but I think it is absolutely worth it in view of the beautiful hike.

First you walk along the stream, past fish ponds. There are also repeated signs with "Grießbachklamm".

Soon you are rewarded with the magnificent sight of the Grießbachklamm. A stream meanders through the gorge and a small path leads past the grassy slopes.

Several bridges and wooden paths make the hike much more exciting and you will find plenty of motifs here.

I recommend using the wooden paths as guidelines and always including the grasses and bushes as well as bottlenecks in the picture.

At the very end of the first part, you will find a waterfall, which I recommend either photographing from a distance or holding the camera a bit in the gorge and then taking the photo.

A mixture of mysticism, mountain world and Kaiserschmarrn

This is one of my favourite hikes and there are many reasons for this.

Here you will find the impressive Grießbachklamm gorge but also an idyllic Aplen landscape AND probably the most delicious Kaiserschmarrn in the world.

The route is not without its difficulties and I recommend you start very early so that you have the Grießbachklamm all to yourself.

A map with all the photo spots can be found at the end of this post.

A wide stream bed and then it gets steep

Immediately after the waterfall follows a wide stream bed with many possible paths to take. This is also the ideal place to take a short break.

Then continue through the now much flatter gorge and then across relatively open gorge terrain.

After about 15-20 minutes, you come to the hiking trail that leads steeply upwards. This is by far the most strenuous part.

However, you will find roots on the ground everywhere, which make beautiful motifs. In the densely overgrown forest you will also find ferns and old fallen trees that are wonderful to photograph.

But all the effort is worth it for what follows...

Off to the best Kaiserschmarrn

Yes, there it appears, the Angerlalm. An idyllic hut shows itself and all around are cows, goats and also pot-bellied pigs running around freely.

Even though the Angerlalm itself is a beautiful sight, you have to order the best first. The best Kaiserschmarrn in the world is served here. It is a traditional Austrian desert with eggs, milk and flour.

It's so good that I have to mention it. Yes, I know this is a photo spot website but photographers like to experience a treat too, don't they?

Once you have consumed this delicacy and photographed all the photogenic animals, you continue on to the nearby pond. This is usually filled with muddy water after thunderstorms. But I was told that you can also find clear water here. With the flowers around, it is definitely a beautiful place to photograph.

See the Wilder Kaiser from a different side

Then you have reached the highest point. If you head north, you will find beautiful mountain meadows and great views.

Instead of just staying on the path, I recommend making a small diversions via Huberhöhe. It is not high and yet offers so many photo spots.

You can easily see the back of the Wilder Kaiser and get a nice shot of it. I would place myself a little behind the ridge and put the flowers in the foreground so that the Wilder Kaiser can be photographed nicely with depth.

If you go a little further, you can see the wooden cross of the Huberalm, which can also be placed nicely in front of the Wilder Kaiser; definitely a nice photo spot.

Back to the parking

We return via the mountain road down to the car park. It has to be said that there are not so many photo spots here, as the forest often blocks the view.

I didn't have the opportunity to look for photo spots, as I had to treat a mountain biker who had fallen and then went down into the valley with her.

What is to be recommended, however, are the houses on the way back in Erpfendorf itself. They are idyllic farms and the meadows with freshly mown hay are also good motifs.

Arriving at the car park, you know what you have done that day. The legs are heavy but the mood is great. This is definitely one of my top 3 hikes for photography fans. Simply fantastic!

All photo spots for you at a glance
