Drive up the mountian
This tour is especially recommended at the golden hour, i.e. sunrise or sunset. In winter, the place is also super suitable for night shots during the day and especially for night tobogganing. Those who definitely get their money's worth are all reflection fans who are looking for still waters with a beautiful view.
After a successful shoot, you can also indulge in culinary delights. So then ... let's go!
Views and reflections
If you are looking for a short tour with a lot of photo spots, then I warmly recommend visiting the Astberg. The Astberg is well-known on social media mainly because of the bench with the "Lieblingsplatzl" on it.
This tour is especially recommended at golden hour, i.e. sunrise or sunset. In winter, the place is also super suitable for taking night photos during the day and especially for night tobogganing. Those who will definitely get their hike's worth are all the reflection fans who are after still waters with a beautiful view.
After a successful shoot, you can also treat yourself to a culinary treat. So then...let's go!

Cute houses along the way
Now, you check again that you have everything and off you go. You are greeted by a small steep slope, which was already the biggest effort.
Shortly afterwards, you pass cute little mountain houses in the forest that almost look like a little witch's village with their beautiful decorations.
After these little houses, I recommend being quiet and looking down the forest to the left every now and then. Why? Because you can always see deer and various species of birds here. With a good telephoto lens you can take really good photos.
When you come out of the forest, you're right at the Astberg and this panorama on two sides is quite astonishing.
One round of motifs please!
If you haven't unpacked your camera yet, you should urgently see a doctor, because now comes the round around the Astbergsee. Smooth water, fantastic views of the Wilder Kaiser and the Kitzbüheler Horn and countless opportunities to put these two sights in the picture.
Here's another idea for Instagram or other social media, if you also create reels: Film the reflection of the Wilder Kaiser with the video camera and drive from left to right. In the middle of the lake, stop briefly and turn the camera 180 degrees.
The result will amaze you!
I would also advise you again to shoot close to the grass or very close to the water. If you work with Lightroom, you can use the option "Remove haze" to include the stones in the water in the picture.
But please do not only orientate yourself to the north, because the south also has a lot to offer! The beautiful and striking Kitzhorn is in full splendour and there are hardly better views of this wonder of nature.
Just put the camera aside for once
At the Astbergsee, there are numerous opportunities to enjoy the moment and absorb all the energy of the place. Around the lake there are benches (some with tables) and wooden deckchairs; after all, you want to get some colour, don't you?
On the north side of the lake there is the so-called "Kaiserkino" where you can watch the Wilder Kaiser as if it were a screen, spread out in several rows of seats. Especially at sunrise and sunset, you can watch the colours change by the minute. A spectacle you have to see.
If you then go to the south side, you pass the cross, where you can take a break and unpack your snack thanks to the table and benches. Just put down your camera and enjoy the moment.
Not far from this spot is the Instagram star "Lieblingsplatzl". If you follow accounts like 365Austria, Visitaustria or WilderKaiser, you've probably seen this motif countless times. This bench is also wonderfully suitable for photos of couples to capture this moment forever.
Back on another way
When you have taken enough photos and enjoyed the place and the moment, you can slowly start your way back. If you are in a hurry, you can go back the same way, but I recommend a small diversions.
On the south side of the slope, after a short ascent, a hiking trail leads past and you can return to the car park via the Astbergspitze.
If you would like to take an even longer diversions, you can return to the car park via the upper Hausberg. A round trip is always better than a round trip, because you pass many more motifs.
What I always advise here is that you use such moments either for wildlife photography or also for taking more creative photos for once.
Who knows what special species are waiting for you here...or not? It's a matter of luck.
